Double Barrell Guns

Gebr Adamy
The History

This gun was made in Suhl, Germany, in 1926 by the Gebr. Adamy Company. It was purchased by a German man who moved to New York in the late twenties. This gentleman sold the gun to the Sloan’s Sporting Goods Company, which was the sole agent in the United States for the Gerbr. Adamy Company. 2/26 is stamped on the Krupp Barrels.
Mr. R.O. Huffman, who was the president of Drexel Furniture Company, purchased the gun from Sloan’s Sporting Goods (about 1932) for his wife to use in shooting skeet. He had a Miller single trigger installed. In the mid-1970’s Mrs. Huffman called my father and asked if he might be interested in buying a gun. My father bought the gun as a gift for me.
This is a very rare gun. Not many 410’s were made by the Gerbr. Adamy Company in the 1920’s. It has excellent wood, ivory double sights, basket weave horn butt plate, two Bowtie Ivory inlays both sides of stock behind the reciever and great engraving. With its skeet/skeet 26-inch barrels, it is great for shooting birds (3-inch shells) and is very light to carry at five plus lbs.
This gun has only had three owners: the German man who bought the gun to the U.S., Mrs. Huffman (44 years) and myself (47 years)
Several years ago, on a Saturday afternoon in low country S.C., my friend Ed Johnson and his 16 year old grandson were following us in a golf cart. William had a go-pro camera on his head. I had never heard of such a thing. We had three-pointed covey rises from 3pm until about 4:30pm.
I shot six birds with six shots with the 410. A few weeks later, I asked William if I could get a copy of the video? “No, I copied over it.”
The next owner will enjoy this gun as much as I have, and pass it on to his heirs to enjoy.

1/4 TONS PER (square)””, and the left flat also has a proof mark. The top
of the forend iron is marked “138444”. The water table is marked “138444”
on the right lug and with crown over “BNP” on each lug. The top of the
floorplate, visible through the water table, is marked “444”. Each side of the
receiver is marked “WEBLEY & SCOTT”. The bottom tang is marked
“138444”. The receiver, floorplate, forend iron and guard have scroll and
floral engraving. There is also engraving embellishment at the breech end
of the barrels.
Barrel Length: 26”
Sights / Optics: This shotgun has Ithaca Ray-Bar orange front sight
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece checkered
walnut set with splinter for end, slim, straight grip, silver initial plate in the
belly, and serrated bare butt. The butt has light wear at the heel and toe
and there are a few scattered light marks and light handling wear. The
serrations in the butt are well defined as is the checkering. There are no
chips or cracks. Drop at comb is approximately 1 1/4”, drop at heel is 2

1/8″, the cast is about neutral. The LOP measures 14 5/8″ and 13 3/4″ from
the fronts of the triggers to the back of the butt. The stocks rate in about
Fine-plus overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blued & Case-Colored
Finish Originality: 90%
Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion in the bores.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. The
balance is mostly in light handling wear on the bottom edges of the
receiver, the outside edges of the floorplate and the bottom tang with some
thinning on the edges of the trigger guard and a few scattered light marks
in the barrels. Where not worn, the case-coloring is nice and bright, the
bluing is deep and dark. The lever and safety show light handling wear.
The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear with good detail on the
engraving. Overall, this shotgun is in Fine-plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The tang mounted safety returns
to ‘safe’ when the action is opened. The shotgun has no play in the frame
to barrel fit. The hammers fall with authority, the ejectors throw shells
energetically and the triggers are crisp. We have not fired this shotgun. As
with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your
maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes in a Brady fabric-
bound hard-sided luggage case with English-style straps and Webley &
Scott label on the interior of the lid. The interior of the case has
compartments for the barrel assembly, stocked receiver and accessories.
Accessories included are a bore jag, brush and mop in a leather snap-top
case and a key for the luggage case. The case has scattered light wear on
the exterior with only very light wear from the contents on the interior, in
about Very Good-plus condition.
Our Assessment: Webley & Scott is one of the oldest British gunmakers,
tracing their origins back to 1790. They are also one of the most prolific
makers, best known today for their production of civilian and military
handguns in the late 19th and 20th centuries. They also have produced, and still do make some fine shotguns. This example is particularly rare,
only 40 Mode 728s were made between 1966 and 1968. This example is
quite trim at 5 lb. 10 oz. with splinter forend, slim english-style stock and
26″ barrels. The gun is in Fine condition, appearing to have seen light and
responsible use. This is a beautiful and exceedingly uncommon gun which
would catch some eyes at the skeet range and would make a great gun for
doves, quail, grouse, even pheasant. Light, fast handling and a beauty to
behold, this shotgun would make a fine addition
